Bridging the Gap Wellness Programs
Bridging the Gap has expanded and is currently running services in the Greenbelt, MD area. We are providing teens with volunteer opportunities in the community and beginning in home, after-school services for parents who have issues finding quality and safe child care that will fit their budget. We are taking the limits off and building bridges to help families in the community. Our after school sessions will include music, reading, tutoring and other creative clubs as we go along.
OUR HISTORY:
BTG started in October 2014 as a basketball camp with over 35 youth signing-up for this program. We had 5 championship coaches come to the neighborhood courts and run 2 hour basketball instructional camps for five weeks. In April 2015 we developed a full basketball team. This branched into having a summer junior team for the younger participants, playing for the Midnight Basketball League with hundreds of other teams throughout Rhode Island, Tournaments with the North Kingstown Police Department and so much more. In that same year, we received a grant from Crossroads/ RI Housing to run programs for Kingstown Crossings and Heritage Village Apt complexes in North Kingstown, RI. This allowed us to bridge the gap for youth in these communities and offer free and accessible creative and athletic programs. We were able to bring therapeutic arts, Yoga, Zumba, Flex-Art, YMCA partnership activities, Dance, Drama, Voice lessons with Ms. Jae, Tutoring from community teachers and more.
